DOLE

Circular Economy

PHILIPPINES

ABOUT THE PROJECT

Dole Foods is one of Asia’s largest manufacturers of canned fruits and fresh juices and among the top 3 market leaders in the Philippines. We enabled Dole Foods Asia Pacific to understand the post-consumer waste landscape in the Philippines and create one of the country’s first recycling pilot programs in schools, where we set up Materials Recycling Facilities (MRFs) and ran educational workshops to teach children about the need to segregate their waste.

Students were taught to bring their household waste to school, where they segregate recyclables to be sold to recyclers, and organic waste for compost and pig farms. The project was launched in early June 2017 in Manila with the aim to be scaled across schools in the Philippines.
